The Southern Ghana Monitoring Unit of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has completed its 2022 first quarter monitoring activities in the Volta Region. Since 2017, 453 GETFund sponsored projects have been initiated in the Volta Region.

The monitoring exercise took place between Monday March 7 and Friday March 18 2022 and covered 220 projects in 108 educational institutions across all 18 MMDAs of the Volta Region. Whilst Ho Municipal had the highest number of projects visited, standing at 48, with 16 completed, Anloga District had the least, being one project currently at finishing stage.

According to the Unit, in all, 78 projects were found to be completed and in use, whilst 89 were at various stages of completion above 70%. Others were at various stages, with uncompleted sites largely abandoned. Overall, the unit  determined that the work done was largely satisfactory and made recommendations for a few remedial works to improve the speed and processes of the various works.

In 2019, GETFund set up monitoring units within the organisation to ensure that consultants and contractors on various educational infrastructure projects deliver quality and timely projects. The team is made up of personnel from the Office of the GETFund Administrator, the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education.

Various zonal offices throughout the country were set up to facilitate this, the first being sited in Kumasi to take care of the Middle Belt and Northern sectors of the country.

The decision was the initiative of the GETFund Administrator , Dr. Richard Boadu, and the GETFund Board Chairman, Prof. Dominic Fobih, a former Minister for Education, to prevent the haphazard manner in which GETFund projects had hitherto been delivered by effectively providing eyes on the ground.
