On Tuesday, 6 September 2022, a Sub Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) led by its Chairperson, Ms. Aretha A.A Duku monitored twenty (20) selected ongoing project sites in the Eastern Region.
The trip took the team to; TVET Centre of Excellence, Anyinam, Atiwa East, Abomosu Senior High Model School, Atiwa West, Abuakwa State College and the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education, Abuakwa South. There were a total of twenty (20) school projects at the various stages of completion the team visited. Aside the two newly built schools (TVET Centre of Excellence and the Model School), the existing schools have had massive structural additions. For instance, a 5-storey lecture hall and office complex structure at the College of Education, a 2-storey 12-unit classroom block, at the Abuakwa State College among others.
As part of its responsibilities as a sub-committee of the Board Trustees, there is a scheduled calendar for field monitoring of projects GETFund is funding. The a-day field monitoring by the Board of Trustees provided an opportunity for members to engage contractors and consultants on constructional challenges at the sites.
According to Ms. Duku, the trip was very critical as it enabled Board Members to physically assess work done and the nature of buildings in the various schools. ‘Such visitations would improve committee reports to the Board of the Trustees as it provided members with first hand information from the field and not to just rely on reports from project consultants’, Ms. Duku said.
The board members were accompanied by GETFund Management Team led by the Deputy Administrator, Mr. Joseph Denteh for the monitoring exercise.
Members encouraged contractors to eschew any form of delays in the completion of the projects, since these projects are critical to national desire to open up access and the transform education at all levels.
