GETFund Administrator interacts with NUGS Leadership
The Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Dr. Richard Ampofo Boadu, has counseled the leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on the need to consciously work towards building networks with dependable, credible and visionary individuals in order to leverage on the opportunities inherent in trusted relationships.
‘‘The youth should be mindful of the fact that deliberate attempts at establishing links with vision-driven mates and/or associates is the surest way to unlock opportunities for personal development and future assurance crafted on substance. Remember, your network is your net-worth’. Dr. Boadu emphasized.
The GETFund Administrator took his turn on Monday 9th January, 2023, to engage leadership of NUGS at its four-day Retreat and Training programme held at the TF Hall, University of Ghana, Accra.
Speaking on the topic ‘Social Networking’, the Administrator entreated the young leaders to be honest and sincere in all their dealings as that will become the basis for creating an enduring and trustworthy bond for the realization of aspirations in life. ‘‘Do not let it be said of you that this person is dishonest due to previous bad deals you engaged in as a student leader.’’ He added.
Dr. Richard A. Boadu said the basis of creating successful networks begins with the individual’s profile of skills and knowledge in the relevant field. He advised the young leaders to go beyond the first degree and add more value themselves. This, he said should be in tandem with the current job market needs. He added, ‘‘the job market today has gone beyond first degree or diploma certificates. You need a master’s qualification among others, in order to set yourself apart from your peer. You also need the added advantage of professional work ethics and the right network.”
“Today’s students’ leadership successes would not be measured by the number of ‘Alutas’ organized within your tenure nor the high-level radicalism discharged. Rather, student leaders would be assessed based on high-level knowledge demonstrated during negotiations with governments, university authorities and the networks they leveraged on for the good of their members. There is no need for holding entrenched positions during such negotiations”. Dr. Boadu cautioned.
He concluded by tasking the leaders to ensure that all negotiations, lead to a ‘win-win’ situation for both parties at the table for the benefit of the Ghanaian student.
The National President of NUGS, Mr. Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo, in his remarks thanked the GETFund Administrator for responding positively to the invitation and for his outfit’s continuous support in supplementing the financing of education in the country.
NUGS presented a citation to Dr. Boadu in recognition of his enormous works towards improving access and quality in education for all the school-going children in Ghana.
