GETFund Administrator counsels Tertiary Institutions on financing options
The Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Dr. Richard Ampofo Boadu, as part of the post GETFund Stakeholder Engagement Forum media engagements, toured selected media houses in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, from Friday 12 January to Saturday 13 January 2024. This was the continuation of the initial media activities the Administrator undertook in key media houses in Accra in November 2023.
His remarks centred on scholarship sensitization for potential applicants and scholars already on GETFund Scholarships. Dr. Boadu advised applicants to be cautious, meticulous, and candid in the filling of the online application processes as the slightest error in responding to questions or uploading of wrongful documents will automatically disqualify an applicant. ‘Previous records have shown petty errors on the part of applicants have denied them opportunity to benefit from the GETFund scholarship’, the Administrator hinted.
He explained that GETFund has four (4) major areas under the Scholarship Programmes. These include.
- General Scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students,
- Faculty Development and Research for Private Universities and non faculty members of public universities facilitated via GTEC
- Capacity Building for Civil and Public Servants as well as security agencies
- Sponsorships for Special events by schools such as the World Robotics Competitions of which Prempeh College and Methodist High Girls school participated in.
Dr. Boadu assured the public that GETFund scholarship is not shrouded in secrecy as being bandied in section quarters of the public discourse. The opening of the scholarship portal is advertised for all qualified Ghanaians to take advantage of. ‘However, it is a very competitive selection process so any disregard for the requirements means you are automatically disqualified

The Administrator said that in 2017 the GETFund paid for Scholarships Audit, which was carried out by the Auditor General and the report led to reforms in the scholarship processes at the Secretariat. The most prominent he talked about was the introduction of the end-to-end online application procedure that has replaced the hitherto hard paper application documents with its inherent multiple limitations. ‘Now we undertake the processes from applications to selection, to approval, fee payments and monitoring of continuing students via the Scholarship Information System’, he emphasized.
He reminded the listening public that the deadline for the application of the local scholarship is Wednesday 31 January 2024, and that interested students may visit; scholarships.getfund.gov.gh to be able go through the application routines once one has an admission letter from an accredited tertiary institution in Ghana, either private or public to start with the process.
