Ahead of the official launch of the above initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, paid a courtesy call on the Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Mr. Paul Adjei. The meeting, held at the GETFund head office in Accra, focused on final preparations for the policy’s official launch scheduled for Friday October 24, 2025, at the Accra College of Education.
The Free Tertiary Education for persons with disabilities (PWDs) is a major component of H.E. John Mahama’s “No-Fee Stress” Policy. As a social intervention, the policy seeks to remove barriers, increase access and make education more inclusive for all PWDs enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Ghana. Under the policy, GETFund will disburse GH¢452.9 million to cover full academic fees for eligible students.
During the visit, Dr. Shiraz commended the Administrator of GETFund, Mr Paul Adjei, for the pivotal role of the Fund in financing education, ensuring equity and reaffirmed her office’s commitment to the smooth rollout of the program. She said the policy embodies the government’s vision of inclusive education and praised stakeholders for their joint efforts in making it a reality.
Mr. Adjei, in his remarks, described the initiative as “a transformative moment in Ghana’s education sector,” and that GETFund is fully prepared to collaborate with all stakeholders for the smooth implementation of the policy.
Dr. Saajida Shiraz celebrated the GETFund Administrator for the timely administrative response in releasing funds for the policy launch. She concluded by highlighting that the amount released by the Fund this year alone is more than the entire allocation over the past four years.
