The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is set to roll out one of the most ambitious education infrastructure programmes in Ghana’s history, following the government’s 2026 Budget announcement. The initiative forms part of a nationwide effort to transform foundational learning, expand equitable access, and improve the quality of education delivery across all levels.

In alignment with Government’s strategic commitment to strengthening basic education, GETFund will lead the construction of 200 new Junior High Schools, 200 new primary schools, 200 kindergartens, 400 teachers’ bungalows, and 400 places of convenience in underserved communities. This initiative is expected to create additional learning spaces for over 200,000 learners annually, directly advancing GETFund’s mission to bridge infrastructure gaps and promote equitable educational opportunities nationwide.

To complement the infrastructure expansion, the 2026 Budget also mandates GETFund to scale up the provision of essential learning materials across the country. Under this initiative, the Fund will procure and distribute 4 sets of KG textbooks for about 1 million learners, 4 sets of primary textbooks for 2 million learners, and 9 sets of JHS 3 textbooks for 1 million learners. This nationwide distribution is targeted at strengthening literacy and numeracy at the foundational level and ensure resource equity across schools by equipping classrooms with up-to-date curriculum-based textbooks.

As part of measures to support quality improvement at the secondary level, GETFund will supply key logistics to schools and district education offices. These will include 2 million metal mono-desks and chairs, 200 66-seater buses, 200 double-cabin pick-ups, and 50 salon cars. These resources will enhance school mobility, improve administrative efficiency, and create healthier, more effective learning environments while strengthening the capacity of schools to manage increased enrolment and ensure seamless academic operations.
