Secondary Education Improvement Programme

GETFund’s financing of Senior High Schools across the country has been pivotal in broadening access and enhancing learning outcomes. The surge in demand for secondary education in the country has consistently exceeded the corresponding expansion of infrastructure investment to accommodate the escalating number of students. This mismatch created congestion in schools, a deficiency of resources for quality teaching and learning, and restricted access for numerous children.

However, the advent of GETFund has directed substantial resources to nearly every secondary school nationwide, addressing critical infrastructure deficiencies. Through GETFund, significant investments in facilities such as classroom blocks, dormitories, and science laboratories have been undertaken, bolstering schools’ capacities to admit more students and foster an improved teaching and learning environment. GETFund has made substantial investments in vehicles, computers, textbooks, and other resources across all SHSs in Ghana.

GETFund infrastructure investment at the secondary level has been more profound since the commencement of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme. The programme created a massive infrastructure gap that needed to be filled to accommodate the exponential enrollment growth. However, using GETFund as the main investment vehicle, the government has been able to significantly close the infrastructure gap for smooth and efficient implementation.

GETFund has historically supported infrastructure upgrade in Senior High Schools through targeted government intervention as a way of ensuring equitable access to secondary education.
