The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has commenced a significant push to bridge the infrastructure gap in the Northern Region’s education sector, driven by the vision of its Administrator, Mr. Paul Adjei.
On Sunday, October 5, 2025, a high-level team led by the Deputy Administrator, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Sualihu Dandaawa, visited the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO). The team, which included the project consultant and the contractor, inspected the site earmarked for the construction of a new three-storey, 18-unit classroom block.
Management of NOBISCO warmly welcomed the project, which they saw as a crucial step towards expanding access to quality education. They also used the opportunity to appeal for additional support, specifically requesting a girls’ dormitory block and a 12-seater toilet facility as well as complete a stalled 18unit classroom block to help eliminate the pressure of the double-track system in the school.
As part of the inspection, and on the direct instruction of the Deputy Administrator, a team from GETFund’s Northern Ghana Zonal Office, including the Zonal Manager and a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, visited the Kumbungu and Mion Districts on Monday, October 6.
Their mission was to officially inform the heads of Kumbungu Senior High School and Sang Community Day Senior High School about a slate of newly approved projects and to introduce the contractor to the respective project sites.
Kumbungu SHS is set to receive a major overhaul with the construction of a large 2,500-capacity Dining Hall with an attached Kitchen, a 2,500-capacity Assembly Hall, and a much-needed single-storey dormitory block. Sang Community Day SHS in the Mion District will also benefit from a new 2,500-capacity Dining Hall with an attached Kitchen.
The head teachers of both schools expressed profound gratitude for the interventions, but also stressed the need for further infrastructural assistance to enhance the quality of secondary education in their districts. The commencement of these projects signals GETFund’s resolute commitment to modernising and expanding school facilities across the northern belt.
