The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) warmly hosted a delegation from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) on 17th December, 2025 as part of efforts to explore partnership opportunities for Ghanaian students.

The UVI team included Dr. Nathan Austin, Director of Hospitality & Tourism, School of Business; Dr. Kendra Harris, Dean of the School of Business; and Dr. Abdulkarim Hatsu, member of the University of Ghana Governing Council.

The delegation met with the GETFund Administrator, Mr. Paul Adjei, to discuss collaboration on student recruitment and support. The University has already begun visiting senior high schools in Cape Coast and other regions, recruiting students interested in pursuing higher education at UVI.  Dr. Austin and Dr. Harris explained their mission to attract talented Ghanaian students and highlighted the benefits of studying at UVI, including its warm climate, vibrant Caribbean community, Ghanaian faculty presence, and welcoming student environment. UVI is located approximately 1,100–1,135 miles (1,775–1,825 km) southeast of Miami, Florida, offering proximity to the United States alongside a unique island experience.

Mr. Adjei welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in collaboration, noting that GETFund supports postgraduate and PhD study abroad but currently does not fund foreign undergraduate tuition. He emphasised that tuition discounts and application fee waivers would help GETFund extend its support and sponsor more Ghanaian students to pursue courses not available locally.

The parties agreed to continue discussions and work towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would formalise their partnership and support for Ghanaian students.
